Mini Vacation Friday

I had a very busy day for a day off.

Guest Post at The Reformed Broker
My friend Josh Brown was taking a week to prepare his new forthcoming book for final review. All week long he featured guest posts by some of the best writers out there. I dropped him a line saying how cool that was to read some different angles from some folks I had not known about. After we talked Josh was all for allowing Economic Disconnect to lighten the mood at weeks end for a Friday guest spot! So exciting!

Here is the post over at TRB:
Innovation Friday
Some very nice words in the intro:
Tonight we have a special treat - the final entrant for Guest Post Week comes to us from my friend Get Yourself Connected (GYSC). He is a scientist by day (molecular biology, gangsta) and writes the quirky blog Economic Disconnect by night. I should mention that we both share an obsession with robots. GYSC has agreed to talk about some of the more fascinating sciencey things he's come across recently, enjoy! - JB
Click on over for a recap of some of the cool things I like to cover! Thanks Josh!

Mini Vacation Friday
I worked on the guest post all morning and into mid day, then I picked up 3 racks of baby back ribs for the BBQ we are having tomorrow. Will have to get started early. I kept on topic and kept Friday night short at TRB because I did not want to clutter up that site. I can clutter up mine, however, so here is Friday Night.

Did Mark Twain Invent the Bra Strap?
Over at Ptak Science Books comes this note that Mark Twain (whose real name was Samuel Clemens) had submitted a patent for a "garment strap" that really looks like a bra strap! Click over to see the diagram.

Maybe I Should Rethink my Anti-Robot Bias
The best way for a robotic world take over to happen is to lull the haters like me to sleep. This is a good start:
Robotic Beer Dispenser
Robot Makes Breakfast Sausage
I still say NO!

Film Clips
A couple selected scenes.

The Ray Bradbury classic, "Something Wicked this Way Comes", was made into a respectable film in 1983 starring Jason Robards. The library confrontation scene is terrifying:

Gets nasty at the 3:00 mark!

Finally clips from the great film "The Fighter" are making their way to YouTube, so check out this charged clip:

The boys from Lowell, yeah!

Rock Blogging
Melodic influence since 2007.

Caught this bizarre music video over at Kid Dynamite's tonight and it is worth a look. This will be super funny if you have ever visited one, "Whole Foods Parking Lot":

Ok then.

My favorite rap song (is this one rap??) will always be The Beastie Boys and "So Whatcha Want":

Nice.

Yes, I tend to be all over the place so about a little live Joan Baez with "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down":

Classic tune.

Sorry for the repeat, but I needed a KISS kick, and this version of "I Was Made for Loving You" is get out awesome:

Two tunes left, then it's 4th of July weekend!

How about some old school Guns N' Roses with "You Could Be Mine" with plenty of robot footage:

I looked for a good live version of this song, but it was not easy! Axle Rose can be spotty live.

Closing the show with the reason why Facebook, Twitter and the rest are second class to me. YouTube is THE best thing going. Where else can I watch any boxing match from anytime in history, or find a live in a Paris club circa 1970 show of Black Sabbath's immortal "Iron Man"?:

Too much!

Have a good night.

Sorry I didn't check in earlier, but I've been busy.

Yes you are eclectic, which is a fancy word for "all over the place."

I watched a fascinating documentary the other night, late at night, on one of those new channels that sprung up on DirecTV. OVTV, I think it was, some sort of BBC production. It was titled Van Gogh: A Life in Letters.

The entire script was taken directly from his correspondences. I found it quite well done.

If I had checked in earlier, for Friday Night Entertainment, I would have requested Vincent, by Don McLean.

Hey C-T, caught your new post, very good. Will add my thoughts tomorrow.

Gawains,
yes everyone says I am all over the place, but isn't that fun too? You never know what you will get and plenty of room for thought. I dunno, maybe I am just weird....
