Snow and Ice

More weather related news!

Snow and Ice
There was supposed to be a mostly rain storm today but late last night the weather crews all switched to "plenty of snow and then changing to freezing rain". Fun. The ride into work was fine, and I left around noon to come home. It took 2 hours to get 30 miles but it could have been far worse. There is no place to keep putting all this snow! I even cleared off the back deck because I was starting to worry about how much weight was on it. And know what else? More snow for Friday! Now if the Patriots had won last Sunday I maybe would have taken Friday off and started AFC title game celebration super early. Not happening.

As of right now I am looking for new positions for trades. I am still long $NFLX and $EW as my stops were not hit to the downside and I have moved them up a bit more after some more upside to both stocks. As of today I am at:
NFLX = +8.8%
EW = +7%
Getting close to my 10% targets for each. We shall see.

I am reviewing $ICON for a possible buy based on a screen.

Other items:
-Meredith Whitney is getting slammed for her call on Muni debt. Muni funds have been getting killed and it is hard to know if it was her call or just structural weakness. Either way what struck me as funny is the idea that the all knowing market could be messed with by some words from one analyst. Pretend is a huge part of our financial system after all.
-$AAPL had another monster quarter. The Steve Jobs news had a more pronounced effect in other markets, but not the US. You all know I am no fan of $AAPL but if and when Jobs is gone I don't see how that effects the company all that much. Of course momentum plays tend to react to all kinds of things in any case.
-Oil over $100, gas over $4, and rapidly rising food prices are all signs of a bullish recovery, yes?
-Riots and general unrest all over the world, must not be Jersey Shore watchers!
-Sounds scary:
Thirty-four millennia ago, some bacteria got trapped inside salt crystals in what is now Death Valley. These crystals were recently dug up and the bacteria freed from their hibernation...and then they started reproducing

-Illegal Immigration funny:
demotivational posters - IMMIGRATION
see more Very Demotivational
Ouch!

Have a good night.

Will this mean another unplanned romp to the Bahamas? : )

Watchtower,
funny you should ask! We are going away for our anniversary as usual in April, but Antigua is the destination this time. I need some sun that is for sure.

I could dig some island time too, that's for sure.

We haven't had much snow here but we have had a few sub 10° mornings.

Snow and ice? In the middle of winter? Surely you jest.

But you do need to get some sun, GYC. Antigua, huh? Never been there, but they do have really good coffee.

By the way, on a side note, did you know that up until the 1800s there was only one coffee plant outside of Arabia? Yep, it was in the Royal Garden in Paris. This guy climbed the fence and cut some shavings, then brought them to the New World. Only one survived, but from that single plant all the coffee plantations in the Americas grew. Interesting little bit of history.

There's a lot of money in coffee these days. And I'm not talking about Starbuck's, whom I hate. McDonald's and Shipley's Donuts have better coffee than they do. I'm talking about real coffee, whole bean arabica.

Personally, I drink Gevalia, imported from Sweden. In fact, I'm drinking a pot right now. Freshly ground, piping hot. It's delicious! I highly recommend it, but it's only available through subscription. I get a shipment every month, have for decades. It is expensive, but you pay for quality. Check them out at gevalia.com.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your much deserved vacation. I'd take one myself, if I hadn't blown all my money to watch the Cowboys lose a football game.

From what I hear, Jobs is the visionary, the innovator - the guy who moved the company from beyond PCs to platforms like the Ipod, Iphone, & IPad.

If Aapl did not have Jobs, they would be just like Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. none of which really innovate and instead spent the last 10 years chasing MSFT on how to create a better PC.

My husband was scraping the snow off the roof with a roof rake this afternoon to prepare for the snow we were supposed to be getting on Friday.

Big fun!

Had to be done though.

I thought of you when CSTR blew up and then FFIV blew up tonight... scared me about NFLX... just remember - your stops are useless if the stock gaps down 10% on earnings...

I have been out of the flow for a week, so I have no more insight on NFLX. I told you last week that I loved it into earnings, but guys have been getting CREAMED on misses... NFLX is probably priced for perfection too!

lotta vol! if it beats, you could see insta 10% upside! and the same on the downside if they whiff...

speaking of weather... smashed up my car last night! (unhurt physically) . post imminent

Hi there! I realize this is somewhat off-topic however I had
to ask. Does building a well-established blog such as yours take a lot of work?
I am completely new to operating a blog but I do write in my
journal daily. I'd like to start a blog so I can share my experience and views online. Please let me know if you have any recommendations or tips for brand new aspiring bloggers. Thankyou!
