Go Ahead and Ask

I have been running errands this evening and I have to run out again in a bit so no post.

Get your Friday night requests in though, the show will be on tomorrow.

Go Ahead and Ask
Everyone has questions, I know I do, but not many answers. I am opening up the blog tonight (or via Twitter) to ask me a question about anything financial or anything you think I may have some idea about. Reasonable questions about myself will be answered, but you know how I am about being too open. I cannot promise a good answer, but I will take the best questions or all of them and see what I can do. Hit it.

Have a good night.

Is Ag going to touch $25, move sideways, or resume it's climb?

How many total fruit flies can 3 pounds of bananas (bought at Sam's Club generate)?

This is a serious question, lol.

We bought the bananas 13 days ago. We've killed well over 500 fruit flies so far using a combination of apple cider vinegar (with soap) traps and manual butane barbeque lighter techniques. Sigh.

For example, I put a new homemade trap in the kitchen this morning. It currently has 23 dead fruit flies in it. My girlfriend claims 14 manual kills and I am up to 10. That's 47 fruit flies so far and the day's just getting started.

They mostly come at dusk. Mostly.

What's your favorite thing about being a scientist? And what's your least favorite?

My question is what is my request for Rock Blogging Friday night? :)

Actually, what was the first stock you ever sold for a profit?

I'm up late tonight. I'm flying to Dallas tomorrow, and travelling by air always makes me nervous, so I can't sleep.

By the way, do you know who it was who first came up with the idea of hijacking airlines?

It was Rod Serling of the Twilight Zone. Yep, he wrote a short story about hijacking in the 1950s. Soon after that it became all the rage.

I don't have a personal question to ask you, GYC. I know you well enough, even though we've never met. But I would ask you this. As a geneticist, how much do you really know about DNA?

I mean, really. Do you actually believe in random mutation? I don't. It seems to me that transposons allow for a DNA molecule to not only determine which genes are transcribed and when, but also can affect the structure of the protein coded for.

That to me is proof that mutation is not random but deliberate. I look at DNA as somewhat like an organic microcomputer chip that is somehow capable of processing information about the environment and responding deliberately to that information. This, of course, drive a stake through the heart of Darwinian "theory," but that's another argument.

I would also ask you if you've read Thinking In Complexity, by Klaus Mainzer. I recommended that book to you months ago. It will change the way you think. About genetics and financial markets, but then they're both the same, right?

For Friday Night Etertainment, I recommend Black Sabbath, "Never Say Die."

That 8-track was still playing in my car when the ambulance arrived. Go figure.
