Shelter from the Storm

Wild pop up thunderstorm right as I was set to drive home. Have I ever told you how much I love my Infiniti G35X? Makes an impossible ride home possible.

Shelter from the Storm
What's left to talk about in the markets? Another ugly day. Still no real panic or capitulation, but it has to be coming.

After the last month you need to get some shelter if you have been taking hits and forcing losing trades. As guidance I can recommend two stops to keep you centered.

Josh Brown, The Reformed Broker has been a great voice for keeping out of trouble. Today he opines on how to survive a market crash. You should read the whole thing and scroll through the posts as of late, plenty to learn:
Downtown’s Rules for Surviving a Crash

I rely on charts in trends for short term trading, but it always pays to be aware of macro issues especially if you are a long term investor. Inflection points are by nature very difficult times. As data changes and slows one cannot fall into a trap of thinking it will all be fine no matter what. You have to be aware of the entire landscape. More and more I find the work done by my friend Tony over at Macro Story to be a must stop for me. Check back over the last two months of Macro Updates, you will see what I mean. Here is the site:
Macro Story

No questions from open thread night, so that's it for the week for things economic.

Film Clips
Stuff to watch.

I loved the first "Underworld" film so very much. The second was just ok, and I did not see "Rise of the Lycans". There is a new film upcoming, and the trailer looks pretty good. "Underworld Awakening":

Will have to see.

After all the beatings the market has handed out, lets get in shape for when things change by training with Balboa in "Rocky II":

Not the full clip, sorry.

Rock Blogging
Bringing the hits since 2007.

Wanted to give a happy birthday shout out to loyal reader and published author Jennifer Hillier who celebrates hers on Monday!:
As is custom JH has asked for a song by Adele, but did not specify. Let's try a live show of "Someone Like You":

Wow, that's a good one.

Traders across the world went out early today to grab at least "One Bourbon, one Scotch, and One Beer" requested by Sovereign Bohemian:

Sounds good!

Best wishes for my friend Soleil and she was looking for Florence and The Machine with "Dog Days are Over":

Excellent pick.

Watchtower alerts me to a 1980's movie I HAVE NOT SEEN!! Stop the presses! I have never seen "Heavy Metal", bizarre I know. Anyways I will check it out. Until then let's try Blue Oyster Cult and "Veteran of the Psychic Wars":

For the AC/DC maniacs, "Back in Black":

Never gets old.

Two songs left, two gems to find.

A little Ramones goes a long way. "Somebody Put Something in My Drink":

Last call. Grab a drink and a lighter!

It's getting late in the summer. That means it's time for Don Henley's "Boys of Summer":

Love that one.

Have a good night.

Awww, you got me a garden gnome! I've always wanted a garden gnome! Thank you thank you.

And thanks for playing one of my all-time favorite songs. You're a good man, GYSC. :)

Just sayin' Hi G. I'm still at work until midnight, but glad to see all the music picks for the week.

I'll be listening to them all after work. Thanks for including George!

More comments to come after work.

JH,
yes I know you want the gnomes and to pronounce the 'g'! Happy birthday dear, all my best.

TSB, good pick. I am just a beer man myself but great song.

I know I have ranted in the past about how much I dislike pretty much any music made from 1990 on, but Adele has talent.

That Underworld trailer looks wicked...and having a hottie dressed in a rubber suit doesn't hurt either.

EconomicDisconnect said...

Watchtower, agree 100%. New stuff is not very good but some shine through like Adele.

If a lady has a rubber suit on, is it automatically safe sex?

Watchtower said...

"If a lady has a rubber suit on, is it automatically safe sex?"

Not if the wife catches you.

Watchtower said...

(just joking of course)

EconomicDisconnect said...

All in fun, and wishful thinking.....did I say that!

Jennifer Hillier said...

The better question is, would you WANT to have sex with someone wearing a rubber suit?

You know what, don't answer that...

Yeah, the carnage on Wall Street, what does that tell you? Why are prices falling so dramatically? Because they rose too rapidly.

We see this all the time. It was oil and S%Ls in the 80s, internet stocks in the 90s, real estate in the 00s, then it was the stock market, now it's gold and precious metals. Prices go up, prices go down. Call it the law of gravity.

Oh, so now gold is selling at $1800 an oz. If you bought at $800, have you made $1000? Only if you sell now.

Back in the day, when America had growing employment, rising wages, modest inflation (3%), housing prices rose at the same modest ammount. At 3% over 30 years, you had equity and a house that you could sell for more than you paid for it. Not anymore.

Prices have dropped 30-50% in some places. Why? Because they rose too rapidly in relation to income.

Anyone who doesn't think that can happen in any other market is deluded.

Oh man, I can't believe YOU of all people have not seen Heavy Metal. It was a pretty trippy experience, to say the least, but I liked it! I think you will, too. ;)

Take this with a grain a salt, because you know how little I know about the market and such . . . but something tells me we're heading to a very bad place. Yet, somehow I can't help but feel that this is needed.

Yes, again, I know nothing (Jon Snow -- heh, heh), but you can call it a gut feeling or whatever. I've got this feeling that the whole world has some tough lessons to learn in this economy, and it's best we get started now. The sooner we can get it over with, you know?

Anyway, have a great weekend!

EconomicDisconnect said...

I can second what David said 100%, but it will be can kicking first. We shall see.

David, really liked the short story, saving it for a weekend post.

The Sovereign Bohemian said...

Loved all the songs period. But I especially liked Florence and the Machine, and Adele.

Thanks for being the Friday nite VJ. Have a great weekend G!

I thought of your blog tonight.

I was out seeing a movie with a friend tonight and he shared a "Social Disconnect" story.

He was dining out recently and noticed that the table next to him was rather quiet. There were 4 people sitting there but nobody was talking. They were all texting on their cellphones, lol.

I blame robots and/or the Borg. ;)

As a Michigander, I have to say: can't you drive an American carvrather than something foreign?

Thanks for playing my request! The songs are all really good tonight!

EconomicDisconnect said...

Soleil, I used to have a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Daytona 500 Pace Car!!! It had an Eaton supercharger and everything. Car had SO MANY problems though, it was nuts. The Infiniti is the best car I have ever driven so I guess I am turning my back on America!!

Alabama Georgia In the US, Phentermine is currently sold under the brand names Ionamin (Medeva Pharmaceuticals) and Adipex-P (Gate Pharmaceuticals). It is also available as a generic medication, known as simply 'phentermine'. Moreover, phentermine is available in much lower price in comparison to other weight loss drug. It was earlier available at $109.00 but now its cost ranges between $79-$74. In the United States it is a number one diet pill sold in the market.
