Friday Night Time Constraints
No time to post this evening as some errands took longer than expected to accomplish (don't they always?). I will shoot for a Saturday post chock full of the fun stuff I usually have for Friday night.

I rediscovered an old comic I used to love. Biting humor and over the top comedy can be found at Redmeat. A sample from the archives of what I mean can be laughed at here. Too funny.

Is a "weatherbey" a good long range (ie stand off) weapon?
I intend to read all of your posts over the weekend. I haven't had time to catch up on the blogging world :) Stay safe everyone!
I don't know if you are looking at the Mark V series or the Vanguard series but either would be a good choice for their respective prices.
Let me throw this in there if I can, Weatherbys competition is the Remington 700 series, here we have another case of Chevy vs Ford but I personally would go with the Remington because it is thoroughly backed up by the aftermarket crowd and the M700 "action" is the most commonly seen action on the target ranges i.e. it is tried and true.
The Weatherby uses the Japanese "Howa" action (and nothing wrong with that, it's just that it is not as established as Remingtons) but in the end both are bona fide winners.
I would pick both up and work the actions and see what felt best to me, and what felt "right", that is the one I would buy.
Two more things:
1. At long ranges I wouldn't feel in the least disadvantaged by having a quality bolt action rifle over lets say an "AR" type semi auto.
2. Don't skimp on the scope, don't be surprised if it cost more than the rifle.
I like Leupolds for the money, if money is no object get a Swarovski.
In fact if money is no object then have a boutique builder such as Ed Brown sell you a rifle.

I saw an article in "Field and Stream" that highlighted the weatherby in use of Dahl (sheep) hunting at long range in the mountains. Seemed pretty powerful. You sure do know a ton about rifles!

Glad to see you. Hope all is going well.
I don't know if things will deteriorate to the point of social chaos or not (I doubt it and I hope not) but who would have ever guessed it would have slipped to the point it has now (beside the rare few), what I'm saying is that I hope you buy something and practice with it just in case.
It's better to have something and not need it than to need something and not have it.
I checked out the pictures from the "Scenes from the Recession" link and noticed this caption under one of the pictures:
"Polish analysts are wondering if the global financial crisis would pull real estate prices down in Poland as well."
I'm no genius but I would have to give that an affirmative.
