Wireless Router Funeral
No post tonight as my wireless router died. I am wrestling with an india-based Comcast representative to activate my new modem and its not going well. Sorry.
Yeah, those wireless routers are a bitch. They always quit on you when you need them.
I had a long day yesterday. Had to drive to this house and take pictures of repairs. Then I get back home and have this new assignment, a drive by price opinion for this mortgage insurance company. Great.
The research on this one took a while. Know why? Because they misspelled the street name! Buena Suerta instead of Buena Suerte, which is the street's real name.
Every search turned up no results. So finally what I did was a search using only the borrower's last name. And it came up. This took hours. Now I have to drive there, take pictures, then start the real research for comparables to use to form a price opinion.
So, let's see. Several hours of reseach just to find out where this house is. It's about 45 miles from here, so it will probably take two or three hours to get there and back. Then I get to spend several more hours seaching for comps, writing and entering the price opinion.
Oh, and how much does this job pay? $65. I can still hear my mother. "You're learning."
The sad part is that this is only a drive by. The company is thinking of acquiring this house, depending on the price opinion I give them. No doubt they'll then ask for a full interior. So I'll have to do this all over again, in the desperate hope of getting the listing. How long will it take before this house sells? I don't know, could be months or a year or two. Then I'll get paid.
Anyone else out there want to complain about their job?
I have a wireless router, but only for my laptop. For my desktop I use digital cable. But even that crashes one in a while, due to a storm or power outage.
If I can't use the computer, I can't do my job. I feel for you.
I hate wireless routers, but ... can't live with them, can't live without them, right ;-)?
I have to do the occasional Droid post as well since my router is schizophrenic at times and also doesn't like a lot of the rooms in my house. Not a bad back up ... and I finally gave in an paid to have the ability to hotspot my Droid whenever I want, so I can use my laptop instead of trying to type on the phone itself.
I'm rambling ... it's hot out lol. Hope your new router works out well for you :-)
When I needed a new router, I chose one of the CISCO plug and play routers. It's very easy to set up, and very easy to link all of my peripherals up to. I have two laptops, my cell phone, and my son's video game hooked up to it, and I have had no problems at all. My signal is always "Excellent".
VPN connection is really awesome. You can also use you mobile devices to configure your connection which is pretty smart for me. Just a reminder, always have a tight password is you don't want to share it to the public.
Sucks... enjoy the weekend
ReplyDeleteGood luck dude.

Oh! That's worst you're having a hard time with the router.
ReplyDeleteI can feel your sadness about it. Hope you'll have a great weekend though!
ReplyDeleteWhat was your router's brand and how long have you had it?
