I am not sure if this video is even real, and the fact that the title of the clip is "F-18 Hornet Extremely Low Fly By" when the jet in the clip looks like a Harrier does not help the real case. Anyways, I still found this pretty wild:
Who Needs Defense Anyway?
Today news came that the New England Patriots traded away star defensive end Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders for a 2011 first round draft pick. I am puzzled at this move. Seymour is one of the last "old school" Patriots. I understand his contract is up after this season and he will probably want crazy money, but that could have waited until the next off season. The Patriots are not exactly known for their generation of quarterback pressure over the last few years, and this will not help.
Tim Graham of ESPN has a much more positive take on the deal than mine, but I still think this move is a bad one for reasons of locker room moral. Oh well, who needs defense anyway, right?

Mexican Centavos
I am not a coin collector, but I really do love old Mexican 50 centavos coins. There is something about holding a coin from the 1800's and knowing that is must have moved all over Mexico and the United States. You can almost feel the history with these things. Here is a picture of one:

That sure doesn't look like an F-18 Hornet to me!
That said, if you could photoshop an additional vertical stabilizer on the rear of the plane I could believe it is an F-18 Hornet over believing that our economy will experience a strong, sustainable, and robust long-term recovery.

Been following your blog for quite sometime. Thanks for your ideas. I read some of the same blogs you do and I appreciate your composite thoughts from all the other blogs. I also enjoy your movie/music/pop culture tidbits as I share similar tastes, ahh the memories. Agree that video looks fake. Can't be an F-18 (slo mo) with one vertical stabilizer, Harrier seems a good guess. The fail blog site is pretty funny. Human absurdity at its finest.
I can understand why the Patriots traded Seymour. They wanted the first-round pick.
To me that's smart. The NFL is known as the Not For Long league for a reason. Because loyalty is a thing of the past.
I remember when I was growing up, in the late 60s and 70s, when teams stayed together. The Cowboys basically fielded the same team every year. Everyone knew all of the players' names and numbers by heart, and the guys stuck together for a decade. Those days are gone forever.
That was back in the day when every Sunday, you got up and watched the Tom Landry Show, then went to church. When you got back home, every family on every street would take their couches and tvs out onto the front yard and start barbequing, in preparation of watching the Dallas Cowboys play a football game. It was a city-wide party, literally. Everywhere you looked, for as far as you could see, on every front yard, people eating barbeque and watching football. Cheers of joy and cries of anguish erupted up and down the streets on every play. Those were the days.
Now, it's a completely different game. The rules have changed. Free agency and the salary cap have rendered it impossible to keep a team together for more than a couple of years. Thus, draft picks become increasingly more valuable and older veterans more expendible.
Look at it from my perspective. Jerry Jones traded away his prime draft picks last year for a Cheshire Cat of a receiver, then paid him $45 million. See him smile, watch him disappear.
This year Jones traded down, took twelve picks in the late rounds, purportedly for special teams. Only six made the final roster, and three of them are injured. What a waste.
Belichick, on the other hand, is obviously confident in the players he has to replace Seymour, so he traded him for a high pick that can be used to draft for depth next year. Yeah, he was a great player, helped New England win three Super Bowls, but in this day and age, it's what have you done for me lately?
Well, what Seymour has done for the Patriots now is gotten them a valuable draft pick that can be used to take a top quality player or traded for picks to add depth.
New England is a much better run franchise than Dallas is at this point. But our Cheerleaders are prettier than yours.
I live in a 'no mans land' zone which means if you meet someone interested in football you can just about bet he/she is a fan of either one of these 4 teams:
St Louis Rams
Tennessee Titans
Chicago Bears
Dallas Cowboys
Maybe this is why I never did develop a deep interest in football (not having that 'big city' tie in), I don't know.
But having said that, even I know about 'Jerry Jones'.

you really are down on the cowboys! I think they may be better than many are thinking this season, tons of pressure of the Giants/Eagles so you never know.
